A Plan Is Not a Strategy

Infographic by Alan (AJ) Silber: two diagrams contrast strategy, a web of linked factors, with a plan, a one-way chain of activities.
The picture in words

Top, Strategy (Logic): Money, Means, Market and Meaning around a central Magic, all linked by two-way arrows, with Momentum feeding in and Meaning branching to three goals.

Bottom, Plan (Process): a one-way flowchart of activities passed across four departments, ending in two goals.

Many confuse a plan with a strategy.

But they are fundamentally different.

👇

  • --> A plan is a set of actions.
  • --> A strategy is a direction towards a goal.

Why does this matter?

Plans alone don’t win wars. Strategies do.

Think of it like this:

  • --> A plan outlines steps.
  • --> A strategy gives purpose to those steps.

With a strategy, you adapt. With a plan, you follow.

Plans can fail. Strategies evolve.

  • 👉 Here’s why a plan is NOT a strategy:

  • --> Plans are about doing.

  • --> Strategies are about thinking.

  • --> Plans are finite.

  • --> Strategies are ongoing.

  • --> Plans are tactics.

  • --> Strategies are visions.

It's time to shift your mindset.

Build strategies, not just plans.
