What Exactly Is a “Religious Post”?

Why we must distinguish religious rulings from Qur’anic and Prophetic guidance for life

12 min read

Prohibit controversy, not wisdom. Groups are right to keep out fiqh disputes, fatwas and sectarian arguments. They are wrong to keep out the Qur’an and Sunnah along with them. A hadith on paying workers on time is not a “religious post.” It is business ethics, and it belongs in every business group.

Many WhatsApp groups (business groups, professional associations, alumni networks, social groups and community forums) have a simple rule:

“No religious posts.”

The intention behind such a rule is often understandable. Administrators want to avoid arguments. They do not want the group to become a battlefield over sects, schools of jurisprudence, religious personalities, competing interpretations or controversial religious rulings.
