Infographic by Joshua Freedman: ten questions that use the film Inside Out 2 to start conversations about emotions.

Ten questions appear beside the film’s emotion characters, among them Joy and Anxiety. They ask about:

  • moments that felt real or uncomfortable
  • new, leading and favourite emotions
  • Riley’s poor decisions and how she pulls out of her meltdown
  • how your emotions help you, and what you value in them

After Inside Out, what did you discuss (or think about for yourself)? 1 big one for me was: What's shaped my own 'sense of self'? How have some difficult experiences hurt, while others strengthened me (and some both)?

Like Riley (with Joy's influence), I've shied away / tried to avoid thinking about some embarrassing or painful moments, times when I made bad mistakes. EG the time I yelled at my kids at Disneyland THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE FUN... ahem.
💎 Something that's helping me with this kind of remorse is to ask myself: "What have I learned so I would do it differently now?"
Trying to lean into gratitude that I am able to learn and grow rather than mistakes turning into shame of being less than I should.

Avoiding a 'spoiler,' I'll just say: The movie does a beautiful job exploring this. A big theme of Inside Out 2 is how our story of ourselves, 'sense of self,' is shaped... in the movie, we can see that DIFFICULT EMOTIONAL EXPERIENCES can contribute in positive ways!

Sometimes we hide away or shy away …
